We are proud to announce that Emma is a very healthy little lady!
She had her 18 month check-up on Tuesday and scored well in all of her categories!
She has surpassed her cousin Sonja in weight--weighing in at 24.2 pounds!!
Only Elliot was able to attend the appointment with her as I am taking summer class for the next 3 weeks from 9-4. He joked with me on the phone when I called him on my lunch break that Dr. Hanson only had one concern--Emma's abdomen. This scared me as it had been bulging a little bit lately. Later in the conversation Elliot's sarcasm shined through and I figured out that our Dr.'s concern was really a joke. Daddy only made the comment to poke fun at Emma's famous round belly! (Even though he really scared me!) Emma really loves to eat, and play just as hard!
She is full of words---ranging far beyond what I would ever expect.
*Today, I asked her if she wanted to eat a Turkey hot dog for dinner? She said--Puppy?? and gave me a really concerned look as she looked out the sliding patio window towards our backyard neighbors house (home to 3 dogs).
*She can point to virtually every body part as you ask her where they are--much thanks to Grandpa David and his teaching of chin, elbows, and knees! :) When someone is holding her (family or friend) she points out their eyes (eyes (:!!), nose (mose), ears (ee--ahh), lips (ips), and mouth (mouf)! She also points out her own.
*She names aloud her cheese (sees), yogurt (yo-ur), milk (miwl), banana (amama), apple (owl), and berries (airys) whenever we feed them to her. She calls calls for her bib (bid) whenever we have forgotten to put it on her before she eats.
*She also loves to look at the Ducks (ucks) and ducklings (babies) that live in the man-made lake just a short walk from our home. She also points out the puppies, kitties (catties), birds (irbs), and bunnies (ummmies) in our neighborhood and in her wide array of books.
*Like I said earlier, she loves to play just as much as she eats. She loves her baby (baby), her blankie (bankie), baby bottle from Nana Barb (bobbo), baby stroller (oller), building blocks (box), books (book), and of course her beloved Mr. Potato Head (my abo).
*She loves to greet and talk with just about anyone. She says hello (hi) and goodbye (bye-bye) to any person, animal, moving object or stationary object that we walk away from. We are working on I love U (which is currently uh-oh) and she loves to say goodnight (nigh-nigh)! She says mommy (mommy), daddy (daddy), auntie (ah-knee), grandpa robin and david(papa and rompa), and grandma cheryl and mary(nana and rama/mama).
*We often catch her in her room with one of her many babies on the rocking chair singing rock-a-bye-baby (bye-bye-baby). This one is cuter than beans!
*On top of her ever growing vocabulary, she still does some sign language including please(peas), thank you(ay-oo), more(mower-mower), milk(miw), and all done/clean up. She also is very good at shaking her head yes or no, although she has moved into saying Ya and Mo more than signing and saying the phrase together.
We are having so much fun encouraging Emma and being mommy and daddy. We could not have asked for a more special blessing!

Sounds like Emma has a good vocabulary. I can't wait for Emma and Sonja to talk to each other in person! Sonja called me 'ant-E' after I taught her about the ants we saw crawling in the garden. We also learned bug-a-bug-a-bug-a:).
And she can say Matt(maa) and Stacy(desee), much to my delight! We love you Emma!
